11.8 Specifications of multi-instance servers
In case of multi-instance servers, it is necessary to consider specific setup of some of the processes.
Remote backup configuration
There are two options how to configure remote backup:
- one instance will be configured for continuous backup (master instance). Continuous backup of master instance captures all databases on a server. It means, on OneDrive you will have X dumps for the X instances. Other instances should be configured as Direct push to SharePoint (slave instances) and disabled in Cloud Backup Config in HQ. Enabling remote backup for slave instances in HQ would result in multiple overlapping backups, which overwrite each other. To find out the last remote backup date of the instances on the server, you can check Date of last rsync on the master instance. It is not possible to find this information on slave instances. - if bandwidth and connection is good on multi-instance server, all instances can be configured for Direct push to SharePoint. To avoid overload of the server, configure regular backups of each instance at the different times. Synchronization and silent upgrade
Each instance has to be configured individually for synchronization. However, the sync user is same for all instances on the same server. Documentation on synchronization
Silent upgrade should be enabled only on one instance (preferably on the master instance) to avoid any simultaneous upgrade running on two or more instances. One instance will upgrade the whole server. Documentation on silent upgrade
